AMATA

AMATA is fastest flowing river in Latvia. In other languages it also means love and beloved.
AMATA is first series of AMATA outdoor moments, designed by Danish Maria Berntsen Industrial Design.
They work intuitively and experimentally from their Copenhagen-based design studio. Inspired by the nature of materials and a product’s destined functionality, they let form follow function in simple Scandinavian designs, ruled by mood and intuition.
"In the design process we started of working with the detail of the leg, a squared profile with very rounded edges, giving it a soft, friendly feeling. this has become a signature detail within the series. another aim has been to use as few screws as possible to keep the focus on the beautiness of the wood."

USMA

USMA is tone of the largest lakes in Latvia. There are suggestions that the name “Usma” comes from Finnish and means “the land of fog” or from the Livonian “Uus maa”, which means “the new land”.
USMA is the second series of brand AMATA, designed by the Finnish AALTO + AALTO a Helsinki-based design office working with products, spaces and exhibitions. Their aim is to create special everyday objects with a strong identity and story. Inspired by time-tested old techniques, all kinds of factories and flea markets. Their special skill is managing to make things which are imaginative and different but still simple and timeless.
"With the USMA collection our aim was to create a light visual appearance using massive wood. A few components, such as the symmetrical A-shaped leg tie together the different pieces and allow for variation elsewhere. despite having a strong constructivist character, we feel the designs will fit into very different types of surroundings - both modern and more classical."
